head startThe plaguing effects of high student loan debt burdens are spreading as each new college hopeful finds themselves unable to afford college without them. For many the chance at a higher education rests solely in the hands of borrowing. While this may be the case for many who’s parents cannot afford to send them to college, there are actually affordable ways to reduce the need for borrowing before a student even graduates high school.

Getting A Head Start

Students should take advantage of early college credits while still in high school. Many of these courses are transferable to most colleges and can knock out some of those prerequisite courses free of the tuition of college.

There are tons of grants and scholarships that can pay for tuition, but finding them can take time. Start researching grants early in high school and find out if there are any local volunteer organizations that will offer tuition assistance in exchange for service.

It is also important to research your different college tuition rates. It is far less expensive to attend community college for a few years and transfer to a state university. Staying in state can save you thousands in tuition, not to mention maybe even allow you to live at home while you complete your courses.
